4th Annual Chili Cook-Off to benefit local schools
The Webster Dudley Business Alliance and Isador’s Organic Fruit & Deli of Oxford are partnering together to host a Chili Cook Off on Sunday, March 1st from 12-2 p.m. The event will take place at Isador’s located at 261 Main Street in Oxford with all proceeds to benefit local schools in the tri-town area through the Hand Fruit Program.
The Hand Fruit program was established by Justin Szostakowski, owner of Isador’s several years ago. “Isador’s Hand Fruit Program raises funds through community events in order to supplement Massachusetts public school lunch programs with organic fruit. Each year the event continues to grow and includes elementary schools in Webster, Dudley and Oxford.” Justin also added, “The main purpose of the cause is to provide a practical education to young people about the importance of whole food nutrition.” To that end he speaks with students and staff about the importance of good nutrition for maintaining a healthy body and mind.
Part of the mission of the WDBA is to be active in the betterment of the local community where its business members work and live. “We all benefit from living in a healthy, positive environment. When individuals and families thrive, local businesses also thrive,” said Debra Horan, president of the WDBA. “We hope to increase our support this year to include multiple school visits in each town throughout the year,” she added.
The public is invited to sample all the entries for a $5 suggested donation and may vote on their top three favorites. Tickets may be purchased ahead of time at Isador’s Organics located at 261 Main Street in Oxford or Booklovers’ Gourmet located at 55 East Main Street in Webster. Donations will also be accepted at the door. Restaurants, caterers and individuals are invited to participate by entering their best chili recipe, from spicy to mild, meat to vegetarian for a $5 entry fee.
