CENTRAL MA AMERICAN SEWING GUILD “OPEN HOUSE”

Central Massachusetts American Sewing GuildCome join us for a make-and-take “Basket” project at our “Open House” on Sunday, September 13th at 1 p.m. at the Charlton Sewing Center as we begin another fun-filled year.

We are the Central Massachusetts American Sewing Guild, a growing group of creative sewers, quilters and those who would like to learn. We are looking for new members of all ages, young adults and men, too!

Our mission is: To advance Sewing as an Art and Life Skill. Sewing has become increasing popular in recent years and we are here to help you learn and help it continue.

We meet once a month on the first Sunday of the month (most months) at the Charlton Sewing Center, “New England’s Sewing Sanctuary, in Charlton Massachusetts, a place with a rich history stretching back to the 1790’s. Cathy Racine, owner, always welcomes us and her shop offers us a wide variety of sewing and quilting items, gifts, classes and much more.

During the year we elect officers, listen to guest speakers, attend sewing-related field trips and of course, SEW, SEW, and SEW! We also learn from and teach each other new skills as we participate in our charity sewing events. Last year alone, in one day, we completed 45 fully complete comfort packs for the Pink Hippy organization. These packs consist of three styles of pillows along with a carrying bag which provide comfort to post breast surgery patients.

We also spend time at our winter and summer retreats where we share our sewing expertise, fun and food. Our winter retreat has been held in Auburn at the Holiday Inn Express and our summer retreat has been held at one of our member’s home (with a pool!) At these retreats we usually are working on individual projects such as quilts, bags or some type of clothing or gift item. Sometimes we gather together and are involved in special group projects such as “learning how to take our measurements” or

a contest for creating the best “bag,” (with prizes too!)

At some our monthly meetings, we have made “quick” projects from fabric such as eyeglass cases and hanging cell phone holders all in one afternoon.

We have also taken field trips to The Fabric Place in Natick, Massachusetts and this upcoming spring are planning a trip to Ryco/Loren in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

We hope you can attend our “OPEN HOUSE” on Sunday, September 13th at 1p.m. And that you would like to join us as one of our newest members!

Thank you, we look forward to seeing you then.
