Fresh Local Cuisine at Roots Down
There is a new restaurant open in Woodstock, CT, just outside of Putnam, close to the Woodstock Fairgrounds. Living by their name, Roots Down is an American Style Bistro that focuses on serving as much locally grown produce and meat as possible. Their mission is to serve great food and support the community around them while teaching others the benefits of buying locally. The ingredients are sourced through sustainable farms where animals are raised in a humane environment that is free of hormones and antibiotics, and produce can be picked at its peak of ripeness, capturing the full potential of their nutrients. Using these fresh ingredients they are able to bring you dishes that are not only full of flavor, but also healthy for you and your family.
Everything is made fresh in house, from the pasta and bread to ice cream and desserts. Even the garnishes for the bar menu are fresh and they will even juice the pineapple for your Mai Tai. The bar features a selection of carefully chosen local wine and beer as well, along with Jones Pure Sugar Cane Soda for the kids.
Because all the ingredients they use are so fresh, the menu is constantly changing depending on what the local harvest brings that day. Try their mouthwatering Braised Beef Short Ribs, served with smoked salt roasted fingerling potatoes, with a lemon black truffle drizzle and sauteed with seasonal vegetables. Or perhaps you’d like the Mousaka, and dish made with fresh eggplant and zucchini layered with sauteed tomatoes, onions and garlic, topped with egg, fresh made mozzarella and labneh, baked and served with a cold, lemon-mint faro salad. There is also a brunch menu filled with classics like Fried Chicken and Waffles and Eggs Benedict or if you are in the mood for something new go with the Chocolate Banana Belgian Waffle or Fried Avocado Ceviche.
The newly remodeled interior features warm lighting and cozy pine booths, while the outdoor patio sits below a wooden pergola strung with lights. What better way to enjoy these beautiful ingredients than outside under the stars?
Owner and Chef Adam Trifone invites you to take the short drive to CT and enjoy everything this great new spot has to offer, you’ll be glad you did!
