From a rousing game of Stool Ball at Plymouth Plantation to Civil War soldiers playing in prisons, from gambling scandals to a bitter rivalry that cancelled a World Series, baseball has enchanted and enraged generations of Americans.
It popularized Cracker Jacks, baseball cards and the broadway song “Tessie.” This evening will be a fun look at the game’s social, historical and professional evolution from 19th century “townball” to the modern day “Major Leagues” It’s not just for baseball fans, it’s for anyone who enjoys history!
This program will be presented by award winning storyteller Anne Barrett on Thursday, April 9th at 7pm. It will be held at The Black Tavern on 138 Center Road in Dudley and is free and open to all.
