“THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY WOMAN”

The June meeting for the Worcester Chapter of the Massachusetts Society of Genealogists, Inc. will be held the second TUESDAY on June 13th at 7:00pm in the Saxe Room at the Worcester Public Library (Contact: Reference Department at 508-799-1655 or mywpl.org), located at 3 Salem Square in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The evening will begin with a short business meeting followed by “The Eighteenth Century Woman” presentation by Gail White Usher. She is an educator and researcher working in New England’s history. She is currently Education Coordinator for Historic New England based at Roseland Cottage in Woodstock, CT. Gail is a principle of Through 18th Century Eyes, a group that present s and lectures on diverse topics informing on life in pre-Revolutionary War New England at historic sites and public venues. She is President of the Woodstock Historic District Commission.

This talk explores New England in the early Colonial period from the perspective of middling and working class women. The audience engages in an investigation of surviving primary source material that includes diary entries, letters, paintings, and objects to gain greater understanding of what it meant to be a woman in New England prior to the American Revolutionary War.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in this presentation. Attendees are encouraged to bring along a friend(s), as well as your own non-alcoholic beverage, munchies will be provided. Anyone bringing goodies to share will receive an extra door prize ticket. Membership is encouraged for anyone pursuing the hobby, passion, or profession of Genealogy. Yearly membership is only $25.00 for an individual and $30.00 for a family living in the same household.

Please note that parking isn’t allowed in the “green” areas (further from the door). Make note of your space number and pay for parking at the outdoor kiosk (cash or credit cards accepted) BEFORE entering the library.
